Global Warming and Water conservation

Last Monday evening, at an event organised jointly by the Association of Catholic Priests and the Association of Catholics in Ireland, and held in Trinity College, we listened to John Sweeney speak powerfully about Global Warming. His talk was easy to follow, but enormously challenging. ┬áThe fundamental message I took for him is that human activity is leading to a gradual warming of the earth’s atmosphere, and that we are nearing crisis point.

Cardinal Brady before the Commission

Sean Brady gave evidence to the commission investigating the abuse perpetrated by Brendan Smith today. A media outlet rang me this evening to know if I would go on their programme in the morning to comment on his evidence. I declined, saying I was sick to death of the whole thing. It is a sordid affair from beginning to end.
We have had a couple of cases in the past few years of bishops saying things when they have retired which they should have said while still in positions of influence.

Lecture on Papal Encyclical

The Papal Encyclical, Laudato Si, and its implications for Church and Society.

The Association of Catholics of Ireland (ACI) and the Association of Catholic Priests (ACP) are jointly sponsoring a lecture on the Papal Encyclical, Laudato Si. We regard the publication of this document as an event of enormous importance both for the Church and society, and that it is a particular responsibility for members of the Church to promote its message in every way we can.
